The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego currently showcases “John Baldessari: A Print Retrospective from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation.” Baldessari, a native of National City, uses primary colors in place of well-known objects. In “Person with Guitar (Red),” a solid, fire-engine red guitar shape substitutes the actual guitar. And in his other works, solid shapes block out or replace people's faces and body parts. Stephanie Bailey, who viewed the collection, said, “I like Baldessari because he has a sense of humor.”
The museum will display John Baldessari’s work in La Jolla through May 13 along with the staff-curated Prospect 2012 Collection, which includes an eclectic variety of art for sale to collectors.
