Comic Book Vixens: superhero burlesque smackdown in Hillcrest
LA's world-famous Devil's Playground burlesque and wrestling troupe don capes at the Ruby Room
“We all grew up on Nintendo and Star Wars,” Nerdcore night and Tiny Nightmare promoter Aubree Miller told The Reader in May.
“It's a part of our childhood and for a lot of us it's a part of our adulthood, too. Nerdcore night is about embracing that kind of fun and taking ownership of your nerdiness.”
In the past year-and-a-half or so, Nerdcore Night at the Ruby Room (1271 University Avenue – Hillcrest) has welcomed geek gods such as MC Lars, MC Frontalot, and Dr. Awkward.
On Saturday, December 29, Tiny Nightmare hosts a special installment of The Devil’s Playground - L.A.’s premier all-girls thematic wrestling & burlesque monthly (rated “Best Burlesque Show” by LA Weekly, 2009) – for an inflatable swimming pool mêlée of superhuman proportions.
“This past September there was controversy brewing between the two groups of characters [Marvel vs. DC Comics] and they stripped down and duked it out in LA,” Miller writes.
“But some felt cheated and they are ready for a rematch!"
