Ten-Year-Old Pianist Ethan Bortnick at Balboa Theater Benefit 9-25
Ethan Bortnick, a ten-year-old piano prodigy and national concert performer, will headline a Benefit Concert at downtown's Balboa Theater on September 25, with proceeds supporting Classics 4 Kids and their music education programs.
Bortnick has performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Martha Stewart, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and Good Morning America. In 2010, Bortnick hosted his own PBS television special, Ethan Bortnick and his Musical Time Machine, and he's one of the youngest musicians ever to headline a national concert tour.
“This kid is amazing,” proclaims Jay Leno, host of The Tonight Show, where Ethan has appeared and performed four times.
At three-years-old, Bortnick was able to play the piano by mimicking songs he had heard on the radio and television. In May 2007, he made his concert stage debut by opening for Grammy-winning R&B star Nelly Furtado after meeting her on his first appearance on The Tonight Show earlier that year.
“We are very excited about bringing Ethan to San Diego and showing off his talents as an opportunity to inspire young musicians, and those who support music education,” says Marion Sciré, Founder and Executive Director of Classics 4 Kids.
“The proceeds will directly benefit San Diego’s children through our music education programs.”
According to The Oprah Winfrey Show’s website, Bortnick has helped raise over $30 million for dozens of charity benefits. He also enjoys playing the piano and performing for sick children in hospitals nationwide. As part of Oprah's farewell season last year, Bortnick was named one of her “All Time Smartest, Most Talented Kids” on the March 1, 2011 episode.
Founded in 1994, Classics 4 Kids delivers effective music and arts-based learning experiences to around 20,000 elementary school children annually. "We work with schools throughout San Diego County, and enjoy an ongoing partnership with San Diego Unified School District," says Ryan Trabuco of Classics 4 Kids.
"Through Classics 4 Kids’ Title 1 school partnerships, we have a special focus on children with few opportunities to participate in the arts."
The Music Education Benefit Concert with Ethan Bortnick will be September 25 at 3pm, at the Balboa Theatre Downtown. Tickets start at $45, and are available at Ticketmaster outlets, the Civic Theatre box office, by calling Classics 4 Kids at 619-231-2311, and by visiting http://www.classics4kids.com
