This installment of OB in HD showcases the dazzling and diverse clouds that decorated the skies of Ocean Beach on a recent Wednesday in early June.

Earlier, a mostly rainless thunderstorm had lingered in Ocean Beach through much of the morning. The storm announced itself at about 8:30am with a single, startling thunderclap, which was followed by about 30 seconds of scattered but plump rain drops.

Some time around noon, it rained again, but harder this time - enough to send the cats scurrying for cover. About five minutes after the rain started, another single thunderclap shook the neighborhood - and sent the cats into hiding.

The footage above was shot at about 5:00pm. Though the thunder and rain had long dissipated, they were kind enough to leave clouds that loomed spectacularly for hours.

Thank you for the video! I am on the East Coast and get my San Diego fix by reading the Reader and all the little stories that stir wonderful memories for me. I miss San Diego so much!

Slept through that bit of rain...Shady-cat take cover! My indoor cat practically lives lolling in the bathroom sink, or splashing in the wet tub, and would probably just roll on his back and drink it all in... The clouds have been beautiful all over. Love the shot across the water, with wave crash in foreground-- from pier or boat?

You're welcome, cece5650. Keep the San Diego spirit going. And don't forget to visit, if you can't get out here full time.

Indeed, SDaniels, we've had unusual and interesting cloud cover for a few days now. We ought to enjoy it while we can...pretty soon, it'll be nothin' but sun (not that there's anything wrong with it).

On the camera angle tip, that shot across the water came from the jetty known as Avalanche, which is near the foot of Cape May Avenue. I wanted to get a longer shot from that spot, but a large and aggressive swarm of beach flies encouraged me to move along.

I love the speeded-up video! And the shot of the jet at the end was awesome!
