Former University of San Diego assistant basketball coach Thaddeus Brown was sentenced today (April 4) to a year in custody for conspiracy to commit sports bribery. He bribed co-defendant Brandon Johnson to influence the outcome of games during the 2009-2010 season, then placed bets on the games. Thus far, eight of the ten defendants in the betting ring have pleaded guilty.

Today (April 11) Paul Joseph Thweni was sentenced to 30 months in custody for operating an illegal sports gambling business and distributing marijuana. According to the federal government, Thweni and nine others influenced the outcome of basketball games at the University of San Diego during 2009-2010, and then attempted to do the same the next season. According to court documents, Thweni and co-conspirators bribed Brandon Johnson to influence the outcome of games, then profited by betting on the games in Las Vegas.
