The county's unemployment rate dropped to 8.4% in September from 9% in August, according to the state Employment Development Department. However, the county gained only 200 jobs in the month. The big gainer was local government, up 4,100 jobs, but that reflected a seasonal gain in education jobs. Between September 2011 and September 2012, jobs rose 28,000.

The ONLY jobs this region produces, or 90%+, are low paying low tax base service sector jobs.

San Diego USED to produce the "Patriot Missile" and a million other high dollar, high tax base products. Now it is hotel maid and janitor jobs.

SP: More than 10% of jobs are in high tech, such as biotech and telecom, where salaries are twice the local average. Best, Don Bauder

I question if even 10% are high tech....I guess it is possible, but not probable IMO. Take out way over price public sector jobs and the number drops exponentially.

As we have discussed many times, there are lots of overpaid people in the public sector; in particular, many public retirement benefits are excessively generous. But the horrifyingly egregious abuses are in CEO, COO, and CFO jobs at private sector companies. Best, Don Bauder
