Mexican authorities scored drugs, arrests, and a small aircraft in the Tijuana and Mexicali municipalities on Monday, April 9. Separate raids were held in coordination with the Mexican army and local authorities.
A raid that took place in the Loma Dorada colony in Tijuana scored a large amount of drugs, along with arrests. Agencia Fronteriza de Noticias reported today that 857 kilos (1889.4 pounds) of marijuana, 29.25 kilos (64.49 pounds) of heroin, and 7.26 kilos (16 pounds) of synthetic methamphetamine were seized. Five suspects were arrested and armed with 14 AK-47’s, one AR-15, a grenade launcher, and a handgun.
Also today, the *U-T * reported an aircraft was seized in an underground chamber near Mexicali late Monday. An anonymous tip led to the raid which also resulted in one arrest, 32 kilos (70.5 pounds) of marijuana, and 900 grams (2 pounds) of synthetic methamphetamine. A grenade launcher, ammunition, and body armor were also found during the operation.
The plane is believed to have been manufactured in Austria. It had been customized to fire grenades. The plane, which was found in an underground tunnel about the size of a basketball court, is believed to be used by a gang for shipping drugs and weapons for the Sinaloa Cartel.
