According to a story in the Los Angeles Times, Judy Meier, longtime editor of the Borrego Sun newspaper, was found dead in her home today (Oct. 11). She was found in the kitchen and her estranged husband, Jim Meier, was found dead on a couch in the living room. The couple had recently filed for divorce. Authorities believe that Jim Meier, who had been a ranger at Anza-Borrrego State Park, killed Judy Meier and then committed suicide, according to the Times. A gun was found near his body. She had been quoted on this blog several times as the Reader followed events in Borrego, including Copley Newspapers selling off its assets. The paper had once belonged to Copley Newspapers.

I don't believe I ever met her face to face but she was helpful to me in covering Borrego for the Reader. Best, Don Bauder
