In September of last year Democratic state Assembly Speaker John Pérez announced he was posting the salaries of all Assembly staffers online for the public to peruse.

“The scandals in the City of Bell have made it clear more public disclosure of public salaries is in order,” he said in a statement at the time.

But the disclosure isn’t totally foolproof.

We recently reviewed the latest salary posting on the Assembly’s website , dated May 31 of this year, and found that Michel Zimmerman, who is listed as pulling down monthly pay of $9,333, annually $111,996, is identified as chief of staff, Republican caucus.

Over on the website of GOP Assemblyman Martin Garrick, Zimmerman is identified as that office’s chief of staff, and he has played a key role in handling the public relations fallout from Garrick’s June drunk driving apprehension at the state capitol.

In March of last year, the L.A. Times reported that Garrick raised Zimmerman’s annual salary from $66,780 to $111,996, around the same time Garrick briefly became minority leader.
