breathe a

breath of courage

inhale exhale

hoping this isn't temporary

or forever

my friday has just begun

travel plans to work

adjusted

running late

standing inside of a wide sidewalk

corner of newport and sunset cliffs boulevard

cars and trucks seem to just roll by

everyone

walking wearing comfortable clothing

me

stuck at attention

trying to suck some sun into my blood

no breeze but a chill in the air

someone says good morning

a few others join me

and the blind man

wearing a cap , waiving

everytime a vehicle sounds

like bus 923

waiting

minutes grow longer as it gets later

seeking a break of thought

a full dog

reddish brown retriever type

a friendly lug

one i could sit down and drink a beer with

tongue out and about

red bandana wrapped around his collar

no leash

he's breathing

sniffing smelling

walking a brisk pace

his friend steps behind

easy telling

what's on his mind

purposeful

on time

sure would be nice

to be that dog today

The images your street poems convey instill in me a desire to go visit your turf.

Hodad's has been in OB for 30+ years, and have been noted for their burgers many times over.......Family run.

You know what a "Hodad" is?? I didn't until I asked them.

I remember them being a slang name for big, wide sideburns.

here's the definition of a hodad ;-D)

50's term for a greaser, someone who hung out at the beach, but definitely not a surfer. Hodads were into cars, music and were a type of counterculture style. These were NOT posers, as some of the other definitions had stated...Surfer's and Hodad's would be completely separate groups, that often clashed with each other. in the beach communities in the 50's one was either a hodad or a surfer. Hodad's wore a very specific style of clothing.....black shoes, jeans, and a t-shirt (preferably white). They were NOT posers, and wouldn't be caught dead hangin' with a surfer. aka...low riders

the dog???...a happy mutt
