Allison Adams Tucker: Jazz Live Valentine Concert

The February edition of the KSDS Jazz Live concert series is going to be a Valentine Day special, with local vocalist Allison Adams Tucker as the featured performer.

Tucker will be joined by bassist Evona Wascinski, pianist Danny Green, and drummer Mike Holguin at the Saville Theatre on the campus of San Diego City College.

Tucker grew up in a musical household--both of her parents are classically trained musicians, and she was singing before she learned how to talk. From elementary school on, she studied violin, flute, dance and voice. She earned her BA in Linguistics and Music, and can sing in six different languages besides English.

I first became aware of Ms. Tucker's abilities via her appearance on Peter Sprague's all-vocal album Calling Me Home. Her feature on the disc is an astonishingly fluid performance of the Brazilian inspired "Cantar," on which she nearly steals the show--remarkable when you consider the other vocal heavyweights on the album.

Her debut CD, Come With Me, was co-produced by Sprague and was nominated for best jazz album in 2009 by the San Diego Music Awards.

What kind of material can we expect for this Valentine Day show?

"For this performance, I'll obviously be highlighting music on the subject of love, but with an international perspective of songs from six countries, and in five languages, and not exclusively the warm and fuzzy version. New love, old love, complicated," says Tucker, adding, "We'll be bringing out a couple of brand new arrangements that will be included on my upcoming CD scheduled to be recorded in Paris at the end of my European Tour in April."

Sounds like the makings of a great "date-night," people.

The concert is free to KSDS Jazz 88 members, $10 for general admission, $5 for students with ID. Doors open at 7:30, concert begins at 8 p.m.
