Inspired Flight and Otherwise Entertainment at Lightning in a Bottle - TICKET GIVEAWAY

Lightning in a Bottle, an arts and music festival produced by the Los Angeles-based Do Lab, has seen performances from several San Diego artists including Red Sonya, Vokab Company, and The Album Leaf. This year, San Diegans Inspired Flight and Otherwise Entertainment will make their first appearance at the festival, which takes place east of Irvine in Silverado from May 27-30.

“My favorite thing about Lightning in a Bottle has got to be the people there,” says Alex Dial, the founder of Otherwise Entertainment, a performance troupe and production company which comprises silk and trapeze aerialists, jugglers, hoopers, tumblers, group acrobats, contortionists, and fire performers. “There are a lot of free-spirited, fun people going. Even people who aren’t normally so fun become fun when they go to the festival. It’s a license to really cut loose.”

Otherwise Entertainment will be performing vignettes between music acts over the course of the weekend.

“We’re new to the festival scene,” says Gabe Lehner of indie rock/hip hop duo Inspired Flight, who were nominated for best electronic artist at the 2010 San Diego Music Awards. “We just played Sunfest in West Palm Beach [Florida], and Lighting in a Bottle is even more about the music, so I’m super stoked.”

“I feel like the people who come out to their shows are our crowd,” says bandmate Eric Poline, “so we’re stoked to expose our sound to more people.”

Inspired Flight will be playing Bella Music Fest outside of Minneapolis on Saturday the 28 (amongst performances by Buckethead, EOTO, Keller Williams, Tea Leaf Green, Beats Antique, and Gift of Gab) and flying back to play Lightning in a Bottle Sunday afternoon.

“It’s going to be a dope scene,” Lehner says. “I saw the Do Lab’s setup at Coachella and there was a lot of trippy, artsy architecture. Walking by, especially at night, it had such magical energy.”

“Yeah, I definitely like what the Do Lab does,” Poline says. “They align themselves with dope artists like Daedelus, a lot of the L.A. beat scene, Bonobo. They seem to have their own flavor in music and art. I’m stoked to be playing the event for the first time and hopefully get to know the guys and collaborate more.”

Inspired Flight will be performing with indie-rappers Eligh and Scarub of Living Legends.

This year’s festival will feature yoga, workshops, art installations, and about 70 performers including Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, Bonobo, Beats Antique, Eskmo, NastyNasty, and Random Rab.
