SDSU lost to Air Force 70-67 on Saturday night. The Aztecs had two good looks at a three point basket as time expired, but could not convert on either of them. In a game comprised of lengthy runs by both squads, Air Force held off SDSU despite the supreme effort of Jamaal Franklin. Franklin scored 25 points had 10 rebounds and 6 assists. He had a monster game filling up the stat sheet and converted 11 of his 12 free throws as well. He couldn’t convert a last possession three pointer to tie the game. The rebound made it way out to James Rahon who also rimmed out a shot as time expired.

The Aztecs flounder when they can’t make three pointers. The Aztecs were 0-9 in the first half behind the arc and only 2-10 in the second half. They made roughly 10% of their three point attempts. Conversely, Air Force made 12 three pointers shooting an impressive 40% from beyond the arc.

Xavier Thames sat out again and Chase Tapley should have. Thames, the Aztecs starting point guard and floor general, missed another game. His lingering injury has caused him to miss three of the seven conference games and has limited him in the games he has managed to play in. His health is a big factor for the Aztecs consistency on both sides of the ball. Tapley suffered a wrist injury in the last game and it showed in his performance against Air Force. Tapley made only one of his seven shots and missed all five of his three point attempts. It was obvious his wrist bothered his shot and he may miss some time.

The loss knocked the Aztecs out of the AP top 25, and lowered them to #25 in the Coaches Poll.
