Gin's Lead Indicators Strong in December
The lead indicators of the San Diego economy, published monthly by Alan Gin of the University of San Diego, are looking good. The December data, published today (Feb. 11) show that all the indicators -- building permits, initial unemployment claims, stock prices, consumer confidence, help wanted advertising, and the national economy -- moved in a positive direction. "That is the first time that has happened since April of 2004," says Gin. The December indicators were 107, up from 106.3 in November and the highest since 107.4 in December of 2008. Despite the improvement, Gin still thinks hiring will be slow this year.
