With the Union-Tribune sale pending, locals are worried about losing the paper's Sacramento bureau, which could be folded to reduce costs for the new owners, Platinum Equity of Beverly Hills. But there's a more immediate threat to an informed local populace: the Sacramento bureau run by NBC news, which feeds NBC outlets across the state, including KNSD here, is being shuttered, reports LA Observed, cutting off the information flow just before the special budget measure election in May.

Sad. The spotty news coverage we've accepted is now even spottier. What will we do when there are no more reporters covering our state capital, the nation's capital, and the world at large? Think you can depend on TV? Hey, the NBC news bureau was the source of reporting that went to TV.

I suppose we'll have the blogosphere, but I'd rather have a real newspaper every day.

I think Matt Potter should go to Sacramento and set up a Reader outpost in the Capitol.
