Two Ways to Find Foodie Solace

Now that chef and restaurateur Matt Gordon has gotten through the first several months at his newest eatery, Solace and the Moonlight Lounge in Encinitas, the spot’s running well enough for him to take a breath and have some fun. For him, that means special events highlighting two of his favorite things—local ingredients and wine. Both will be the subjects of events he’ll be putting on this month.

On Sunday, January 29, Gordon and his sous chef, Ginny Vacarro, will head out for a special sunset barbecue at Greely Garden, a plot being developed in Logan Heights to supply Solace with produce and serve as an educational site for students at Laura Rodriguez Elementary School.

Vacarro has been putting in plenty of time condition the soil, helping to erect a greenhouse and get the garden ready for the public. The barbecue will be its debut and will include live music an art show and some other fun surprises. Space is limited and reservations can be made at [email protected]. Greely Garden is located at 3254 Greely Avenue.

Prefer a wine soiree to a garden party? Pencil in January 31 to visit Solace and the Moonlight Lounge for the Solace Family Wine Tasting. Gordon and his beverage director, co-owner and beverage director, Young-Mi, will have six of their vendors in to pour 40 of their favorite bottles. Artisanal cheeses and special food pairings from the restaurant’s kitchen will be served. Solace and the Moonlight Lounge is located at 25 East E Street.
