Ian Anderson 2 p.m., March 2
Uptown’s Two Buck Chuck
Still in Uptown.
Late at nite, echoey streets, kinda closed down except for that wunnerful hot dog joint (see below) that’s saved the marriage, Carla being what she is with her hot dogs.
So – and this is Wednesday - heading for 4th and Uni and the only bus still running to downtown, the 105, when I hear this beehive murmur of sound.
Then voices, then big laffs, then, hey: a solid cube of people jutting out into the sidewalk under a blue awning, yappin’ away like the Tower of Babel.
Huh. Flicks. “Hillcrest’s Original Video Bar.”
“It’s $2 drinks nite, every Wednesday!” says, or kinda shouts, Ryan, who turns out to be one of the bartenders.
“Nine till two. It’s been a, like, institution for years and years.”
“And always crowded like this?”
He says it’s just well drinks that are the two buck Chuck. “Specially vodka- cranberry. Everyone likes that.”
Happy customers, Art, José
Wow. This’d be hard to resist, except for two things.
Last bus is gone in five, and zero dinero.
I swear, life at the top. Not as cool as they say.
