Food Truck Field Report #2: Poway? No Way!
Nuts and Twigs People, cast your eyes aside.
JR Kaminski, third generation BBQ guy down from Poway with his "Super Q" BBQ truck, has just handed me the most disgustingly delicious plate of carne asada fries ($6.99) I’ve ever had.
Actually, it's the only combination of carne asada and BBQ sauce I've ever had.
“My whole family, eight of them, said it was ridiculous,” says JR. “‘You can’t mix carne asada fries with BBQ sauce!’ I did. And guess what? Customers went ape.”
JR's black-and-green food truck, Super Q, is his idea too. He says they’re doing great. I taste the BBQ carne asada fries. Oh, wow. To die for! That BBQ sauce makes them sweet, lots of jalapeños make 'em spicy, the combo's rico suave, totally seductive.
The Pork Melt is wicked, too. Mac’n cheese, pulled pork, sautéed onions, melted cheddar, toasted sourdough. This I’m taking back to Carla. Could I handle them both? No way, Poway.
Note to self: Tomorrow, run a mile. Eat nuts and twigs.
