California DMV Announces New Cannabis License Plates (10/25/12)

In a press release yesterday, the DMV said availability of a Special Interest Cannabis license plate will begin in January 2013. The plate will contain the image of large 5-point marijuana leaf. Initial and renewal costs for the plate are expected to be comparable to other special interest plates. Medical cannabis dispensaries and growers will benefit from plate proceeds. The state is expected to receive over $35 million from distribution of the plates based on the number of marijuana smokers in California. Strict limitations however are already in place regarding personalization. Wording that includes or alludes to getting high will be prohibited.
