Baja & Border News Translations: Better Child Nutrition Care Urged; Tourism Promotion Will Intensify for San Felipe

Better Child Nutrition Care Urged (La Voz de la Frontera, 10/21/12 by Alejandro Garcia Magall)

Mexicali, BC - With the aim of avoiding malnutrition, poor infant feeding and its impact on health, Óscar Armenta Llanes, nutrition specialist of the Institute of Health Services in the State (Isesalud), called on the community to maintain an adequate and balanced diet from birth.

He noted that malnutrition can also occur in newborn infants with poor nutrition during pregnancy, as well as children who have some degree of obesity and are overweight. "Nutrition is not synonymous with overeating; required nutrients must be provided and balanced, avoiding the consumption of 'junk' food or drinks with high sugar content", he noted.

There are three types of malnutrition: mild, moderate and severe, the last having repercussions on health if not treated in a timely manner. Underlying diseases of the condition are presented with the immediate impact of poor nutrition, such as deterioration of the immune system.

"Patients with malnutrition can be studied for immune problems, which makes them susceptible to common and opportunistic infections," said Armenta Llanes. Respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis, anemia, skin spots, tooth decay, growth retardation, neurological development and the emergence of infections are only some consequences of malnutrition.

"Malnutrition is a problem linked to poverty, inequality and a lack of information, hence the importance of spreading the health message around good infant feeding," he stressed. Information from the State Department of Health said that Baja California is next to last in child malnutrition nationally. http://www.oem.com.mx/lavozdelafrontera/notas/n2740832.htm

Tourism Promotion Will Intensify for San Felipe (La Voz de la Frontera, 10/21/12 by Alejandro Domínguez)

San Felipe, BC - Attractions, services and tourist events of San Felipe will be promoted on both sides of the border during the coming months, on the basis of a program of work in the field of promotion, advertising and public relations, unveiled the Secretary of tourism of the State, Juan Tintos Funcke. According to the State official, though instruction from the Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan, with more than one million pesos ($78,000 US) contribution, San Felipe will be promoted through a set of actions aimed at the markets and destinations that have helped the port record an improvement in average hotel occupancy compared with 2011.

The above was reported at a meeting he led together by the President of the Council of Economic Development of San Felipe, Rafael Navarro; the Coordinator of Marketing Committee, Roberto Islas; the Manager of the Trust of Tourism of Mexicali, Blanca Bernal, as well as a representative of the Committee on Tourism and Conventions of Mexicali (Cotuco) in San Felipe, Rubén de la Peña and other tourist entrepreneurs in the port.

"We agreed to apply such an amount of resources to advertising through radio, television and print media, both in Southern California and Tijuana, Ensenada and Mexicali, and this is in addition to familiarizing the State media and travel sector in California with presentations of destinations in various cities of the entity," said Tintos Funcke. There will also be support for efforts to disseminate upcoming events and promotional tours on both sides of the border, all this is thanks to more specific information we have about how tourism in San Felipe is going this year, in an agreement of shared responsibility between tourist entrepreneurs of the port and the Government of the State, said the State official.

According to the event calendar, there was a Classic Rock and Blues Festival on Saturday; a charity Golf Tournament at the Caridad en el campo Las Caras de México is on October 26th and 27th, as well as the traditional Shrimp Festival held from November 2nd to the 4th, with renowned chefs and special rates for accommodations in order for visitors to enjoy an exciting weekend in the port of San Felipe, Baja California. http://www.oem.com.mx/lavozdelafrontera/notas/n2739895.htm
