The City-State of San Diego?

After the ballot measure to stack something like a football stadium on top of a seaport loading terminal and the South Bay airport-island patent (those proposals are/were real, so far as I am not making them up), I thought that was about the weirdest news I could find here in San Diego, but then San Diego’s city council president Ben Hueso speaks up and tosses this into the media meat-grinder: “consolidating the city and county governments of San Diego, similar to the city-county model used in San Francisco”…

Really. Us citizens of San Diego can't get rid of the Southeastern Economic Development Coporation and the million$ in block grant liabilities that development agency/corporation has incurred because our strong mayor says we have to be responsible and keep them as the price of "keeping politics out of development", so now we want to export that to the County of San Diego in exchange for, oh, say $600 million a year out of county coffers as described by El Presidente de San Diego?

I guess the next think we ought to be selling to the county if they'll buy that one could be a controlling interest in the Chargers?

Hey... I've got it... if becoming our own city-county is good, then why not become our own city-state? How can this not be better than that?!? We already have El Presidente de San Diego... now all we need is for somebody to nominate Carolyn Smith as prime minister, and then we can all can live happily ever after in the fairy tale castle that SEDC built and we just may end up paying for later.
