The rumor around the Santee campus this week is how the Santana Sultans should be undefeated and should have never lost to Christian earlier in the season. The fact of the matter is they didn’t beat Christian though and the team that is really undefeated is El Centro-Central who is making the trip from Imperial Valley on Interstate-8 to Santana High School. The Spartans are 26-10 in there last 36 games which is a 72% winning percentage over the last three seasons.
The Sultans fared well last week against Imperial Valley by shutting them out at home 19-0. The game this week cannot be taken lightly by Santana. El Centro-Central has some potential college athletes at the skill positions and fourth year coach Kevin Bird will have his men fully prepared to steal a win on the road tomorrow. Charlie Moreno had his 1st 100 yard game of the season last week as he finished with 109 yards on 18 attempts and a score.
Kyle Hays from Santana is almost averaging 100 yards a game, but what may be even more impressive is he is averaging 9.6 yards a carry on 30 attempts. Look for Mr. Hays to grab another 100 this week if not more. Zach Breidt, sophomore quarterback, has been a pleasant surprise at times throwing for 7 touchdown passes so far, but he also has tossed 6 interceptions which leads all of East County. Kris Kimmel is averaging 20 yards a reception so far this year for the Sultans and has 2 interceptions to his name too, so look for him to be big factor for the purple tomorrow. Sultans will WIN and improve to 3-1.
Prediction (Santana 24 – El Centro-Central 14)
