Monte Vista will travel to Grossmont High School on Friday night for a Grossmont cross League showdown when the Foothillers of the North take on the Monarchs of the South. Last year Grossmont defeated Monte Vista 28-7, but running back Nick Williams for the Monarchs did have 118 yards rushing in that game so he has showed success against the Foothillers defense. And if Mr. Williams saw what happened last week to the Foothillers defense I bet he had some extra motivation in practice this week.
Last week you would have thought the Foothillers defense was chasing Usain Bolt all night as Steele Canyons Alex Perlin broke a school record and ran for 309 yards on 32 carries against the Grossmont defense. That had to be a subject of conversation this week with Coach Culver, from Monte Vista, and his staff preparing to attack the Grossmont defense this Friday night.
Grossmont could have the X factor this week though as they had 2 offensive stars last week nudge their way into the schools record book. Quarterback Tyler Mutter who completed 25-43 passes for 277 yards and 3 TD’s goes into the schools record book tied for 4th all-time for completions in a game at 25. In addition wide receiver Etherton had an outstanding game for the Foothillers with a school record 13 catches for 172 yards and a touchdown. The 6-3, 185-pound junior broke the Grossmont record of 10 catches set by SCOTT BEATTY against Monte Vista in 1981.
This is one of the toughest predictions of the week so far. Grossmont wins with the newly discovered passing attack at home.
Prediction (Grossmont 32 – Monte Vista 24)
