Braves & Norsemen STILL Undefeated

Out of the 11 total teams in the Grossmont division this year, only 2 remain undefeated heading into week 4 of the high school prep season. The El Cajon Valley Braves of the North and Valhalla Norsemen of the South League are the only two undefeated teams left from the East County.

High School Redzone Game of the Week by the San Diego Reader.

El Cajon Valley’s coach Dan Goodrich has his Braves firing on all cylinders after the first three games. ECV has already scored more points this year in three games then they did in all of 2007. The Braves will get their first test of the season tomorrow night in a rare Thursday night game against the 2007 Division V Champs. The Bishop’s Knights are a disciplined team and this game will create some interesting match up’s on both sides of the ball. ECV’s offense which is 100% out of the spread shotgun has a tailback by the name of Gerald Kendall that can literally take it to the house any time he gets his hands on the ball. Bishop’s defense has been stingy so far this year and they haven’t surrendered a lot of points, but we’ll see how they react to the “run and gun” style of the Braves who will look for a more balanced attack this week through the air and on the ground. The Braves defense has been outstanding this year behind 2nd year defensive coordinator Derrick Schmitte. Last week they Braves defense held their opponent to 7 yards and had 6 turnovers. It won’t be nearly that easy for the defense this week as Bishop’s has one of the best running schemes in the county.

When opportunity has knocked this year the Braves have answered with attitude. Expect the same tomorrow night in the Thursday Thriller as the Braves remain undefeated.

Prediction (El Cajon Valley 28 – Bishop’s 21)

Valhalla High school is riding the momentum of the Pete Thomas train that will have plenty of more stops before this junior graduates. In two games already this year Thomas has 7 touchdown passes and is completing a gaudy 63% of his passes while leading his Norsemen to an undefeated early record of 2-0. Brawley will get the chance next at knocking off the undefeated Norsemen, but that will be a difficult task because Valhalla is at home with a new field and emotions will be running high in East County. Brawley has the skill position players to make it interesting but it is up front where their is a little out matched. The Pete Thomas Express keeps rolling this week for Valhalla.

Prediction (Valhalla 38 – Brawley 7)
