The Sultans of Santee will travel two hours to the desert and home of Imperial Valley High School tomorrow for a showdown with the Tigers. Santana has been the tale of two teams as they tossed up 40 plus points in the opener, but were only able to muster up 14 last week against Christian High. Imperial had a bye the first week and finished off an Arizona high school, Gila Ridge 23-0 in week two.
Caleb Hogue will carry the load for the Tigers who will enjoy there second home game in a row. If the Imperial defense can contain the Santana offense there could be an upset in the desert. Coach Dave Gross of Santana is on his 9th year with the program and this team may be his youngest ever.
Look for Imperial Valley to leverage the strength of their defense to stay in this game. Look for the Tigers to blitz young sophomore quarterback Zack Breidt of the Sultans often as the Tigers recorded six sacks last week. Breidt has already placed himself in the top tier of CIF Section passers this season and is completing 55% of his passes to go with five touchdown passes, good for third in the entire section.
In the end though the Sultans will edge out the Tigers of Imperial Valley, so if you here reports of unexplained noise occurrences coming from the I-8 freeway in Jacumba, that just may be the celebrating bus of the Sultans singing there way back to Santee with a victory and an overall record of 2-1.
