Cougars Will Look to Invade Lakeside

The Steele Canyon Cougars will invade Lakeside Friday night as they match up against cross league foe El Capitan. Both teams are sitting at .500 for the year but the Cougars have the edge on and off paper coming into the match up.

Steele Canyon has allowed running back Alex Perlin to bloom into a fine running back and is amongst the leaders in the section for rushing. Nobody in East County has even touched the ball more than Perlin and in fact he is #2 in the entire 95 CIF school section with the most carries at 91. On those carries he has amassed 628 yards averaging a very nice 157 yards per game.

Initially you might think that El Capitan has the equalizer in Tanner Rust and the ever so potent passing attack of the Vaqueros, but the offense has been sputtering this season and Rust has been under intense pressure in every game. If Steele Canyon has any pass rush tomorrow night it might be over early for El Capitan at home. Rust is averaging 170 passing yards a game which is down from last year’s average considerably. With an almost non-existent running game the entire burden of victory falls on the senior signal caller.

The Cougars are always a very well disciplined football team and even found a little passing game last week which makes them even more dangerous. Steele Canyon does a very good job every week at getting their opponents to play into there style of football game. El Capitan is not the same squad as last year and it has shown. Cougars win on the road.
