He Took a Knee with Me

I don't have alot of nice things to say about Bank of America, but one of the people in its network sure lifted my spirits one day. And it could have turned out to be a disaster.

When I heard a scratching at my door early one morning, I thought it was a critter. I just walked by and opened the door and kept walking. It wasn't until I heard a voice saying "Hello! Hello!," that I realized someone was there.

I live in a cabin in the woods and just don't get alot of visitors. In fact, the one time there was a knock at my door it was the census people counting heads in the backcountry. So, this young man was quite a surprise.

He was there to serve me with a notice of default on my house. I didn't qualify for three "save your house" programs so they gave me, not a 90-day notice, but 30 days! When I saw the date, I almost lost my breath. That's next month! Homelessness had a date and it was February 4, 2013! I knew my payments were behind but I always thought I had 90 days if they called the loan.

This young man asked if there was anything he could do and I said without hesitating, "Pray for me." Then he said, "Let's pray together." Imagine that from the process server. Then, he took a knee with me.

We both agreed that he should be grateful for a job that takes care of him and his wife and new baby even if it meant delivering bad news. Then, I asked him to pray with me and ask not that my house be saved but that God's will be done. However He wants me to serve but I got very nervous when I got into waters that I literally did not know how to navigate.

"Fear not" is the basis of my religion but I had no idea what to do with no place to live. This young man reminded me that we aren't in charge of the process. I was so uplifted by his efforts.

My story took a wonderful turn when a woman from my church offered to let me covert her garage into an apartment and even welcomed my four cats which had become my little family. We have made the transition and are moving ahead.

As of today, Bank of America has not taken my home. They have moved the sale date back in 30-day increments. No idea when it will go.

Thanks for letting me share how much the kindness of a stranger can mean. SherryD
