The Turks are coming...to a charter school near you - REMOVED PER JH
Most state charter school laws prohibit "cherry-picking" and require the schools to take students on a lottery basis or first come, first serve basis. So this assertion is just nonsense. Did you get it off the website of your local teachers' union?— November 15, 2013 10:14 a.m.

yes ... they could be "sleeper cells", waiting to take American down by teaching our children Geometry, physics, and trig! You want to scare yourself sometime? Take a walk through any science building in any U.S. college or university and note how few citizens are in the advanced degree programs. If we want to avoid our nation getting hurt, we will need thousands more of these schools across the country. Unless, of course, you don't mind working for some foriegn nation that has entirely overcome us in technological progress.— November 15, 2013 10:11 a.m.
The Turks are coming...to a charter school near you - REMOVED PER JH
Ms. Higgins knows little of what she writes about. She is obviously a bit xenophobic in her views, particularly in regard to those of Turkish decent. She has been castigating a hundreds of schools and people, neither of whom she has ever seen, with her histrionic shrieking about Gulen organizations running charter schools. It appears that some charter schools are affiliated with Gulen organizations, but many of the schools and people she recklessly smears with her uninformed broad brushing have nothing to do with such organizations. What they are doing is providing rock solid educations to children in many demographics. Magnolia is not an inner city school, she might be interest to know, but there are many inner city charter schools that are giving their students excellent educations and achieving academic results that the public schools in those communities have never achieved -- and doing it with the same demographics. Perhaps Ms. Higgins new found purpose is being underwritten by the NEA. Now that would be a scandal worth writing about!— November 15, 2013 10:07 a.m.
