Southwestern College Superintendent Raj Chopra Resigns
More than anything, I am relieved. We have been working under an oppressive, heavy-handed, power-hungry autocrat. Now he is leaving. (He probably shouldn't leave town, though. He should be a "person of interest" to the DA's office shortly, now.) When the e-mail announcing his resignation was sent, you could hear the collective cheer over our campus..."Ding-dong, the witch is dead, the witch is dead, the witch is dead!". Yes, I felt like a happy Munchkin in Oz, right down to the "happy-dance". I am hopeful for the future of Southwestern College!— December 2, 2010 1:43 p.m.

Sounds like a good time was had by all in attendance, on my dime. Too bad I wasn't invited. Or any of my students, since they paid for it, too.— October 21, 2010 10:49 p.m.
Prop R, for Rewards at Southwestern College
Prop R is the key to all of this. We have been trying to find reason behind the Board's nonsensical decision making for years now. We didn't see what is now obvious, the motivation for this mess... Greed. And avarice. The oldest and most powerful motivations of all. Prop R is manna from heaven, a bushel-full of taxpayer cash dropped into the laps of the Board. Its now just a matter of finding out how they've decided to divvy it up among themselves and their cronies. Heck...their cronies MADE IT APPEAR, like magic! ("YES! on Prop R"). Sounded good! Sounded GREAT for the college!! I voted for it! Now, I see that it is the fuel for this engine of madness. It is the motivation for ALL the Board's shenanigans! They are publicly-elected TRUSTEES! But they obviously don't give a tinker's damn about SWC! They may have gotten away with it if they had only played nicely with others (e.g. the REST of the SWC community!) But no...they've played it stupidly. And now they're going be (have been!)exposed. As thieves of public funds, hopefully! There's GOT to be some criminal charges for one or more of them in this whole ****-storm somewhere! After all, **** is never evenly distributed when it strikes the blades of a moving fan! They may continue to get away with it, if they aren't voted out in November.— September 22, 2010 10:44 a.m.
Prop R, for Rewards at Southwestern College
This is really some very ugly stuff. I'm so glad that this rot, this abscess in the flesh of Southwestern College, is being exposed. The only way to treat it so that it will heal is to VOTE IN NOVEMBER, FOR HERNANDEZ, NADER, and SAINZ-GONZALEZ, for the Governing Board of Trustees.— September 15, 2010 6:02 p.m.
Isolate, Expose, Avoid
My primary focus is to educate and uplift my students as best as I am able! My students deserve my best efforts, and they deserve the best efforts of the institution. It is a sad state of affairs that the institution apparently has other foci, concerning Bond measures and re-elections. General mis-management has resulted in drastic course reductions and lay-offs, making it harder for students to get their education in a timely manner. The Board continues to make decisions that make no sense to anyone, even when reasonable alternatives are presented by faculty, classified employees, and students. Yes, the school is nearing 50 years old, and many buildings are in need of modernization. What I see happening, however, is that public bond money is being used by the Board to build monuments to itself, i.e. the "Raj Mahal" slated for the corner lot. The same could be said for the entire Otay Mesa facility. In my humble opinion, we should mothball these satellite campuses (or even rent them out for space!), and circle the wagons here at the main campus. As it is, we will have lots of pretty new classrooms with no students in them. The focus of SWC Board should be to serve students, and to help them to "get where they are going" in their education and careers. I don't know what the Board will do next...I've given up trying to anticipate their actions based on reason alone, because I'm disappointed every time.— August 19, 2010 3:03 p.m.
