More info from 4/2010: At the NP Cluster Meeting, there was much talk about increasing our "parks and open space" by making our alley's "more walkable". I have for many years promoted this idea, even suggesting that our North Park alleys would also be great places for displaying "AlleyArt", turning them into Alley Art walks displaying metal sculptures and other removable "metal installations".

Each piece would have a standard tubular base which would fit into a lockable vertical "receiver" mounted in cement in the ground along the edge of the alley. These art pieces could then be relocated around the City's alley's (and other locations) for an ever changing free public Alley Art Show. Each low cost piece (say $500) would be a "original" and they could be "sponsored" by local residents, businesses and or public donations creating a completely NEW ART collection for the City.

This plan would be a great way to add our Alley's to the short list of fun places to walk in and around San Diego, attract new visitors and best of all, it could be done at little cost to the City!

Since we are lucky enough to have a PAC here in North Park, I'm going to request at the next PAC meeting, that the PAC provide a small amount of money to create a Demonstration NP Alley Art Project in the alley parallel to Ray St. between North Park Way and Landis St.

Hopefully soon, when folks visit North Park, or come to Ray at Night, they will also be able to tour San Diego's 1st. Alley Art project!

I'm going to suggest names and or bumper/stickers of: NP AlleyArt Walk and I ♥ AlleyArt.
