When crossing into Mexico at the town of Tecate, look towards the median at the plaque with a bust of John F. Kennedy. It comes up quickly so you have to be prepared. The plaque was erected in 1966 and addresses the brotherhood between the countries of the United States and Mexico. The town of Tecate is a wonderful example of the best of Mexico. It's small and humble, and keeps to itself. It's surrounded by farms, ranches spread out among the green hills. It's a welcoming town from which to access some of great sites of northern Baja, including the cave paintings of La Rumorosa and the wine country in the Guadalupe Valley.
