Sounds like blatant misappropriation. You would figure the board and the newly hired superintendant would want to clear up these statements in a public forum - unless you knew anything about this board and this superintendant. I also wrote the 10News reporter and the management for that station. Having attended the meeting - the way this was reported did not even come close to representing the truth of what happened. The meeting was adjourned by Ms. Quinones - and then McCann spoke up about the pledge. This is why the media gets such a bad reputation - one-sided reporting and no fact checking whatsoever.

I sent a letter to Joe Little ([email protected]), the station manager Jeff Block([email protected]) his SIC, Jay Maloney ([email protected]), and his assistant, Linda Blake ([email protected]) Completely agree that this was taken out of context - the meeting had ALREADY BEEN ADJOURNED - people were getting up to stretch their legs and McCann spoke up about the pledge. Absolutely ridiculous!

What The Heck is Going On at the Sweetwater Union High School District?

News 10 completely got this story wrong - I sent this to the reporter and his bosses at the station. Mr. Little, I am deeply disturbed and disappointed by your reporting and the lack of research or fact checking that you applied to your recent story on a school board meeting at the Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) office in Chula Vista on September 10th. Having attended the entire meeting as a concerned parent and not part of any Occupy Sweetwater group, I was there to help police the elected officials who are supposed to be looking out for the best interests of our children. What you failed to report is that the meeting at already been adjourned by the board president prior to Mr. McCann's request for the pledge. You also failed to report that every person in that room promptly stood and placed their hands over their hearts and proudly pledged allegiance to the flag. The same attendees,who having listened attentively for well over an hour to members of the community, teachers, parents, students, and taxpayers commenting for two minutes each on the ambiguous agenda item and recent decisions made by the board that have negatively impacted students and schools in the SUHSD but received no responses from the board. There is a REAL story here that you completely ignored - perhaps because you based this story on a small clip that was chosen by Mr. McCann. That is not journalism. Perhaps you can learn from this and try and get the whole story next time and not just what one person wants you to hear

The school board needs to realize their positions come from the people and they are accountable to the people of this community. The look of disinterest and annoyance on Quniones face last night was just awful! I hope some of what the community said last night sinks in.

Sweetwater Union High School District bought iPads for all their seventh graders

It sounds like a lot of taxpayer dollars were spent on something that wasn't planned out al all. I wonder if this program will still be around next year for incoming 7th graders. Who is the SUHSD accountable to? Researching on the California Dept of Education website - it seems like the School Boards are autonomous and that we're in the wild west here.
