Mike Nelson
Mike Nelson is a San Diego area guitarist, composer, and arranger, who has been performing locally since the early 1980’s. He studied classical with Celin Romero, and jazz guitar with Art Johnson and Bob Boss during his music studies at San Diego State University. While studying at SDSU, Mike refined his composition skills, and his guitar compositions have been recorded and performed in the United States and abroad. He has also arranged music for film, and his music is featured in the documentary “Wiener Takes All”. Mike has been performing on Friday and Saturday nights at The Lodge Torrey Pines’ Golfer’s Grill since 2002. His set list includes an eclectic mix of jazz standards, blues, classical, pop, Americana, and original music that synthesizes all of these elements. Mike’s recent projects include collaborations with singer/instrumentalists, in an acoustic duo modality.
By day, Mike is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern IMF #76130. He works for YMCA Youth and Family Services as Engagement Specialist in the Y’s new “Permanent Connections” program. In addition, Mike conducts therapy in a private practice (michaelnelsontherapy.com) under the supervision of Lorna Hecht, MFT, Lic. MFC35604. Mike is just months away from earning his license to practice in California.
