People Will Tell You That You're Late and You'll Hate Them for It
I'm never putting mail in a blue box on El Cajon Blvd ever again.— April 2, 2012 8:45 a.m.
The Stick: When Six Strings Aren't Enough
Nice story! Griesgraber is really good - definitely worth checking out.— March 8, 2012 4:22 p.m.
FM 94/9 Cancels Morning Talk Mikey Show
NPR simply will not wake me up. Too soothing. Want music!— March 8, 2012 4:19 p.m.
FM 94/9 Cancels Morning Talk Mikey Show
This is probably the best news I have heard all day. I used to be a very loyal 94/9 listener but that show? Drove me away. So I'm one of the folks who went back to 91X. I would rather listen to 91X's robot DJ alternate Offspring and Sublime over and over and over than that have to hear that bunch of self-indulgent yakking. MUSIC. Play MUSIC in the morning. And OK, sure, the occasional traffic report or headlines. But please not a "crew." No more crews. UGH.— March 8, 2012 3:29 p.m.
A Tale of Two Toronados
I've enjoyed beers at both places and not been treated poorly at either. OTOH, I'm not trying to have a chat session with the crew in a busy bar, especially during beer week. If you go in and ask why they don't have any real craft beer like Blue Moon, you're gonna get told, but otherwise, I think they're good people at both spots. Got some details on the "pompous negativity?" I would have to say that one area where "our" Toronado is nicer is the ladies' room. I've heard the SD mens room isn't great but in SF those bathrooms are nasty. 24 years of Haight Street cruft.— March 5, 2012 1:36 a.m.
Ikea Meatballs
Swedish meatballs are typically a softer texture than your typical all-beef meatballs. Also, that is lingonberry jam they serve it with, not cranberry. They sell bags of precooked frozen meatballs at the front - I pick up a package almost every time I go there. Good value.— February 29, 2012 11:27 a.m.
Water Balloon Strikes in Bird Rock
Water balloons are a big improvement over eggs. I have had raw eggs thrown at me twice walking along Mission Blvd in PB in the early evening. And both of these are less damaging than throwing stuff off freeway overpasses, which seems to have died down in recent years.— August 1, 2011 10:19 a.m.
Worst Dressed
There really is no shortage of "flip flops, ratty shorts, and uncombed hair" in San Diego. It's pretty much the uniform west of the 5.— July 23, 2011 4:54 p.m.
Mid-City Rapid Transit: A Rapid Waste: NOT What We Voted For!
I am also a huge transit fan. I use it every day. And I live in that neighborhood. I also think this is a terrible plan. As I understand it, the plan is to have a DEDICATED bus lane. And as anyone who uses MTS knows, most bus routes are very infrequent and there's very little chance of that changing. So for the vast majority of the day, that lane will sit there empty. Uncrossable, unusable. Not only a safety problem for pedestrians trying to cross the street, but also for emergency vehicles which will no longer be able to cross Park Blvd at Polk, Lincoln, Howard, etc. If there were guaranteed long term funding to make this a fast, FREQUENT bus, I would be more inclined to give it a chance. But I don't think that's in place, so every 15-30 minutes we'll see a bus. The rest of the time, well I guess that big empty lane will be a safe place for pedestrians to hang out waiting to run across the road. (Too bad for wheelchairs, strollers, shoppers with buggies.)— June 3, 2011 12:29 p.m.
San Diego's One-of-a-Kind Spirits Festival
That's a classy logo they have. You get legs in the air for only $50? Bargoon!— April 25, 2011 9:08 p.m.
