David Elliott's Final Column
David, This news is hard to take, on the heels of a huge downsizing at The Denver Post. I have read your wonderful, thought pro-poking film criticism for years; Yes! Your words have often 'poked' my thoughts to make me consider some films/stories/characters in ways I could not see before reading your review(s). I did not always agree with you, but I have learned a lot from your reviews, always looked forward to reading them, and now realize that many of my film experiences have included your reviews for years. You said it best: "The afterlife of a movie is not the box office report, it is the discussion." I couldn't agree more. I believe there are a lot of us out there who love the film afterlife of discussion and do not support "numbers'-driven so-called art in film and journalism. I have only been reading The SD Reader to read your reviews, so I'll be leaving as well....on to the next, eh?— June 13, 2012 9:50 p.m.
Horse Whisperer Buck Brannaman Speaks Up
Great article by Val Scher on the Horse Whisperer. I liked the link to the movie review by David Elliott.— June 22, 2011 8:58 a.m.
Black Swan Gets a Black Spot
Most interesting review of The Black Swan, by David Elliott. My favorite reviewers, The New Yorker's David Denby and The SD Reader's Mr. Elliott agree on this one! Quote from Denby: "Black Swan" is every bit as beautiful as a tray of Russian Easter eggs. Maybe someone should crack one of them on Aronofsky's noggin and bring him to his senses. We probably won't go see this one...— December 11, 2010 8:55 a.m.
