Almost all the ingredients to a nice chill evening of snacking and drinking--tapas, wine flights,cheese and other little delights. The cheese plate seemed as if they just took whatever they had left and threw it together--which is fine when there are some gems, but these were somewhat uninteresting in the variety. Service was OK--they didn't seem enthusiastic about suggesting wines to try and the waiter couldn't help us identify the cheeses on the plate but they were friendly. It also was tenor night, which was cool the first two or three songs into our evening, but wow, that voice carries! It was not light background music, rather a quite forceful serenade of dinner guests drowning out any conversation.

Star of the Sea Event Center

From the giant Easter Island head with the glowing nose ring and ear plugs to the fans overhead, Mr Tiki is one meticulously decorated lounge. The drinks and convenient happy hours have never disappointed. They make great mai tais and at $5 during happy hour, it's a deal worth revisiting while in the Gaslamp area. The food is good, but not amazing--I enjoy reading the playful menu more than eating the plates. Go elsewhere for good sushi and dimsum--it's on the level of PF Chang's. One exception may be the calamari with sweet chili sauce. It comes with a great crispy exterior and the meat is just the right chewiness.
