San Diego Gas & Electric rates are nation's highest
Why no mention of solar energy? San Diego is a perfect location for massive retrofitting to provide real competition to the utilities stranglehold. Not massive projects that benefit the few but individual house/apartment buildings with solar panels. Sheesh...what's it take San Diego?— April 24, 2013 9:32 a.m.
Go Fish. But…where?
Goodness Gracious...which way is East? Oh Golly Golly I don't know where to paddle...maybe you should stick to a kiddie pool on your lawn! Humans have fished the seas to near extinction: I've lived in La Jolla in the 1950's and abalone were plentiful...they're scarce due to overfishing. I've lived in Downeast Maine where grandparents fished the Grand Banks in schooners for Cod....they're gone due to overfishing. Does Doc Ricketts ring a bell. Giant Bluefin Tuna are almost totally gone and everyone claims innocence. A company is San Diego was selling sonar buoys to lace the ENTIRE Pacific Tuna habitat so that tuna schools could be tracked by satellite link up. Perhaps the spoiled paddleboarder should stick to finding his car with his gps and keys. Suggestion...head east for 500 miles and stay there!!— October 5, 2011 5:03 p.m.
The Federal Reserve's Money Orgy
Hey Don: A good friend did an expose for CBS New York in the 70's about the Federal Reserve. For telling the truth about this cosa nostra he was fired. Moral: The rich get richer and we tax paying suckers keep on paying. San Diego City Government is as corrupt as they come but San Diegans truly are the most passive bunch of sheep I've ever encountered. Bet 2 of them actually read your article. Cheers.— April 27, 2011 6:24 p.m.
Jerry Brown Wants to Rein in Redevelopment Scams
Don: Pigs at the trough. As an ex-resident of Golden Hill and current resident of Beaverton, OR I can testify that it is the same dynamic everywhere. I lived through the CCDC redevelopment of downtown...a complete giveaway to developers. Escondido can't vote on a public giveaway for the Beavers (Soon to be Friars?) baseball stadium. Not enough time say the rulers. CCDC works in the dark and sucks up the money and Mayor Sanders fiddles as the urban redevelopers drain the coffers. Wake up people...San Diego citizens get what they deserve. Maybe it is the effect of a large military-industrial presence: Do what we order! No questions! NO VOTES. DUH! Enjoy your sunshine, sunshine.— January 26, 2011 10:05 a.m.
Go Slow: Caye Caulker, Belize
Visited Caye Caulker (Corker) for a week in February of 1974. No air tanks available and only a daily water taxi available...the way it should be. Culture at that time was scary: If a woman left her house she was "Inviting" rape by one of the locals. Our hostess had 22 children. A U.S. citizen who owned a small cafe was beaten and raped because she made a joke that "Slighted" a local man. The only reason he was prosecuted is because another U.S. citizen held him for authorities. The biggest movie hit was "Mondo Bondo"...hopefully the island has gotten away from the blood and guts catholicism it was steeped in. Rusty— April 21, 2010 10:52 a.m.
Got Megayachts?
Oops, meant El Coral Hotel and Marina. And we're talking maybe $45,000,000 per year in avoided taxes.— March 12, 2009 8:23 a.m.
Got Megayachts?
Tip of the iceberg: The "90 day yacht club" allows California boat buyers to buy a yacht "Offshore" and take it to Ensenada for 90 days. See the Coral Casino Hotel and Marina for where the boats usually go. Upon return to California the yacht buyer pays NO STATE TAXES! Juan Vargas tried to get this subsidy to the rich closed, but I don't think it passed. Another example of Kleptocracy at work...meanwhile a mile away young and mostly poor Americans train at MCRD to fight our Empire's Wars. Ah Rome, you can smell the flames.— March 12, 2009 8:07 a.m.
