Sanders Pushes Car-Free Zone in Balboa Park
What this is really about is Sanders doing more favors for the paid parking brokers in $an Diego. This project is also sets the stage for cooperate privatization of Balboa Park. If you care about Balboa Park as a park for the people and free parking, say NO to $anders and his lousy paid parking scheme.— July 6, 2011 12:03 a.m.
Following the Money in District 3
Notice how vague South_Park_Davis is with "facts." "What does "not very long" mean? Is that more or less time than Hillary Clinton spent in New York before running for U.S. Senator? Or Carl De Maio in his district before running for City Council? As a fourth generation Californian and a native of San Diego--a resident here of 52 years--I can say most the people in San Diego haven't been here a very long. The Kumeyaays can say none of us have been here a very long time. Also notice that Todd_Davis_from_South Park is so accustomed to the culture of corruiption that surrounds Todd Gloria, he just can't comprehend the concept that Whitburn made his money the old fashioned way--he earned it. Then saved it. It should be noted that while Todd Gloria was still a child Stephen Whitburn was an adult with a career and working on his life's goal of doing good in this world. Whitburn is the rare individual who isn't materialistic. Rather than spend money on new cars or a mortgage he saved his money so he could live a life of public service and be beholden to anybody or any special interest except the common good. It appears to me Gloria's goal is to win an election and sit pretty. Stephen Whitburn's goal is to unselfishly serve the community. Gloria is the developer's and insider's candidate--a mere puppet for special interests. Whitburn is the people's candidate.— October 28, 2008 6:10 a.m.
Following the Money in District 3
An elderly neighbor of mine said Todd Gloria came knocking on her door even though she had a Whitburn sign in her yard. She said Gloria went negative in a big way. Gloria called Whitburn unqualified and incompetent. Then called him a carpetbagger. He then told her that Whitburn was just another Steve Francis trying to buy the election. She found herself almost believing him because Gloria seemed so sincere. But when Gloria told her that Whitburn earned the Democratic Party by only two votes--and after some back room deals--she knew that Gloria was lying to her. A friend of hers had been at that endorsement meeting. She knew that Whitburn had won the Democratic Party's endorsement by a large amount. Todd Gloria's stock must be tanking. Otherwise, why go negative with lies like that?— October 24, 2008 11:49 a.m.
Why do People Under Federal Investigation Love Todd Gloria?
The posting by Todd Davis From South Park was laughable. Todd refers to the law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP as if it were part of a right wing conspiracy that somehow involves Stephen Whitburn. That is pretty funny because if you look at who the firm donated money to, it is a long list of Democrat icons: Joseph Biden, Dianne Feinstein, Henry Waxman, Harold Ford, Junior to name a few. The firm obviously likes talent when they see it, so no wonder they'd want to donate to Stephen Whitburn. The suggestion Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP was responsible for 8 years of Bush is pretty comical. Todd doesn't talk much anymore about having worked for a while with Hillary Clinton. Too bad, otherwise he'd have to admit Hillary Clinton did the same dastardly deed that he says Whitburn is doing: loaning his campaign his own money. A lot of great candidates have done that--and for good reason. You're not beholden to anybody. The rest of this tossed spaghetti that Todd Davis is trying to stick to the wall isn't much better or accurate either. I think it is time look at what really is going on here. These are words of a desperate candidate and/or supporters going negative. It is they who assume the voters are stupid and can't see what is happening. Vote Whitburn to Change City Hall and take it away from the special interests and developers.— October 22, 2008 11:26 p.m.
The Mike Aguirre Show
The purpose of this forum was three fold. The first was to allow the public to see candidates first hand responding to specific questions related to historic preservation. The second was to bring candidates attention to a subject all to often ignored by politicians in San Diego. Especially in San Diego. Their preparation and research for the questions submitted ahead of time was in itself a means of educating our prospective policy makers. The third was to get candidates on record about specifics related to historic preservation. We want to hold these people accountable for their word, whomever is elected, if their actions fall short of their rhetoric. I've carefully reviewed video of the event. These candidates all did their homework and gave excellent answers. The responses were not only excellent but also lively--and often entertaining. Especially Mr. Auguirre. The comment by district3resident is nothing but partisan bomb tossing--simply disregard it as spin or fiction. All the candidates did a fine job.— October 4, 2008 11:09 p.m.
Whitburn Stands up for San Diego
Clearly Gloria is a bought candidate--its not just a list of developers behind him, it is that entire industry from top to bottom; lock, stock and barrel. Sure, Gloria will occasionally hook up with the opposition to a particular project now and again so he use his line "I can say no to developers." Notice he doesn't say "I WILL say no to developers," because he won't. The enormous amount of money he takes from them says he won't. The best example of this was his ardent support of Kensington Terrace, a project he and his developer friends were in love with--even though the community resoundingly hated it. The fate of that project was headed to court before the developers FINALLY decided to sit down with the community and work out a design with their input. Todd Gloria went mum on his advocacy for Kensington Terrace when it became obvious the tide was turning against the project. Politics as usual in San Diego. If you're happy with City Hall, The Council, agencies such as SEDC and CCDC, then Todd Gloria is your guy. He's part of the same old crowd that has earned San Diego a reputation as Enron By The Sea. The list of insiders that flocked to his campaign and his list of special interest donors all point to the status quo in San Diego. As I said, if that makes you happy vote for him.
