Freak flag
I've been rocking reddish brown hair for years. It suits me. Reddish brown instead of flat out red because I don't want to pay for the more frequent upkeep. I've decided in celebration of my upcoming 60th birthday in a few years I'm adding a streak of color. Or feathers or both.— August 12, 2015 10:57 a.m.
Gah! Ugh.
My life is filled with children. I gave birth to three and have three grandchildren. I have a bachelors degree in child development and ran a child are out if my home for 26years. I am glad that I have chosen to have children. Do I believe that other people can get more satisfaction out of traveling or a career? Unequivocally Yes. There are as many different paths to happiness and fulfillment as there are people. One way is not inherently better or more worthy than another. I enjoy reading Barb's column because she has made different life choices than I have. Her choices don't undermine mine or make mine any less valid. I am grateful every day that I live in a time that allows me choices on how to live my life. Own your choices and be proud of what they are, allow others the same privilege.— December 5, 2013 4:23 p.m.
Diva Las Vegas
I love Vegas for the art and the thrift stores. Savers is the best. My husband and I just got back from a southwest road trip and I have one word for you: Oatman. At first glance Oatman doesn't seem like your kind if town, it's an old mining town turned touristy. Two restaurants serving hamburger and fries. So what is so special about Oatman? Donkeys. When the mine went kaput they released the donkeys into the desert were they not only managed to survive but to thrive . Well after a while the current shop owners started to feed the donkeys and now they wander freely through the town. You can buy food for a buck and feed them. I was in animal geek heaven. It's well out out of the way but so worth it.— October 9, 2013 8:06 p.m.
Squirrelik the Red
Last month we visited Las Vegas and had a very un-Vegas type trip. One of the things we did was visit the Valley of Fire about a 35 minute ride just north-east of the city. If you've never been i would highly recommend it. While we were in the park we had a picnic and fed grapes to these adorable little chipmunk/ground squirrel creatures. http://www.redbubble.com/explore/popular+chipmunk…— May 15, 2013 4:29 p.m.
Le Pew
I live in Normal Heights and I can tell you there are plenty of skunks, raccoons and opossums for that matter in the mid-city area. I am convinced that my little terrier likes the smell of skunk. Last summer I humanely caught and then released a total 6 skunks down in Mission Valley by the river. I borrowed a feral cat trap from the county, wrapped it in a tarp and baited it with cat food. Like thieves in the night or very early morning my husband and I would rise early and transport them in his truck to the release site all before he went to work at 6:30 AM. After the 6th skunk I convinced him it would be easier to block the holes along our fence line.— December 6, 2012 10:22 p.m.
Cirque du Crazy
Barbarella is a raving bitch because she is anxious? Because she is taking responsibility for her behavior? Barb, I think you are brave to admit to your broken parts in such a public form. Remember we can not change the behavior that we don't acknowledge.— May 16, 2012 8:26 p.m.
San Diego's Tsunami Escape Routes
Shortly after the tsunamis of 2004 I went out to dinner with my husband. The server who was waiting on us expressed her fears about the possibility of a tsunami hitting her home. I asked her if she lived nearby, and she said yes. I told her that I didn't think that she had much to worry about considering the fact that she lived and worked in La Mesa.— April 11, 2012 8:31 p.m.

When two-ply isn’t enough and light bulbs go poof
You want to know how I get 6 ply toilet paper? I fold or bunch up a wad of Costco's Kirkland brand toilet paper. Works every time. I never considered wiping ones unmentionables part of the "spa experience".— March 14, 2012 1:15 p.m.
Neighbors have been calling the San Diego police for four years
Here is a link to an article, found ironically in the Chicago Reader: http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/how-to-get-r… In short residents got various governmental agencies to communicate and work together in getting rid of these people. The laws/agencies may be slightly different in the Chicago, Illinois area but we seem to have comparable agencies here. Hope this helps.— March 10, 2012 7:33 a.m.
