It Was Scary Up There on the Coronado Bay Bridge
I just read a magazine article (sorry I don't have the reference) that if you encounter someone attempting suicide, the best thing is to ask them to help you with something YOU need. The claim of the article is that almost everyone who is trying to commit suicide will respond to another person's need, and that will distract them from their own intention to depart.
