Billy Crystal Ready to Return as Oscars Host
I was in the Aero audience and can verify that Billy Crystal is in top form. Let's hope he says yes to the Oscars. Paul Mazursky and Nick Nolte appeared for discussion four days later at the Aero to celebrate the 25th anniversary of DOWN & OUT IN BEVERLY HILLS. They're obviously good friends, very sharp, and entertained us with charming, humorous stories and perfect timing. Future Oscar hosts?— August 17, 2011 2:33 a.m.
Danny Baldwin Rates the Cinépolis Experience
But think how much he got right... it was probably spell-check.— August 17, 2011 1:47 a.m.
Interview: Former La Jollan Yoav Potash, Director of Crime After Crime
This documentary is an indictment against those who blame the victim and distort the legal system for their own gain. I commend the director, Yoav Potash, for creating such a powerful film.— August 16, 2011 6:30 p.m.
Dig A Hole:Deranged Character Actor Roberts Blossom
I will remember Roberts Blossom for his excellent portrayal of Jay Gatsby's father in The Great Gatsby. I also know he was involved with yoga and meditation, which probably helped him maintain his equilibrium while playing some pretty unusual characters that you list in this tribute. I wasn't aware of many that you mention.— July 16, 2011 10:58 p.m.
Harry Potter Marathon at AMC
I'm not a Harry Potter devotee, but after reading your article, I'm ready to see all eight movies at the AMC. What a great idea! The price is right and I think I want that lanyard too! Thanks for the info! Jessica— July 7, 2011 11:24 a.m.
Buck, the Equine Hero
By linking two first-rate Reader articles (authors David Elliott and Valerie Scher) about “horse-whisperer” Buck Brannaman, a potentially valuable rescue is offered to readers in the arena of intimidating life challenges. Buck had big problems to solve as a youngster and established techniques with horses that carried into human relationships. Being a horse enthusiast, I agree with the film’s assertion that working with horses/animals can become a spiritual endeavor. Buck explains, “It’s amazing what a healing effect horses can have on kids, particularly troubled kids, that might bridge the gap [better than] a well-intended human.” Ultimately, the audience benefits from a beautiful documentary and solid advice.— June 25, 2011 11:29 a.m.
