Reneging on refunds
After much work on my part, I submitted the refund request and got a partial refund. Getting the paperwork together and submitting it was such a hassle, it was obvious that as many impediments as possible were being put in the way of getting a full refund. It shouldn't have been so difficult. The illegal charge was itemized on each property tax bill. The assessor has computer records. In a grown-up world, the assessor's office should have been able to extract a list of people who were due refunds and automatically sent out checks or credits much in the same way it sends out bills. I too am disappointed by Todd Gloria's lack of leadership on behalf of his constituents. It seems like the residents of his district are "small time" when compared to the business interests and the city bigwigs he associates with. I expected more when we elected him.— December 4, 2012 11:11 a.m.
Will Golden Hill Residents Have to Pay for Their Now-Defunct Maintenance Assessment District?
Will this boondogle ever be over? We voted no originally since the representation was weighted toward business owners, but the assessment was payed by homeowners (taxation without representation). In the last few years, we have seen about four trash receptacles and some scraggily flower pots, hardly the beautification of our neighborhood and hardly worth the money we were assessed. How many trash receptacles and flower pots would we have gotten if so much money hadn't been spent in court? Not only should they not assess us in our next tax bill, someone should investigate why this whole initiative was started and who ended up with the money.— March 17, 2012 3:22 p.m.
