Top 10 -- Famous Dead People You'd Like to Meet
Jim Morrison. Not the "rock star", the person. I'd like to meet the person I've read about - a laid back gentlemen who talks about his travels and recites his poetry. Then when he has one too many and decides to hang off a ledge of a building for kicks, I'll take his car keys and drive him home. If I had to pick a comedian, I'd say Rodney Dangerfield. He was one comedian that got me to laugh even before he delivered a punchline.— June 24, 2009 3:47 a.m.
Exercising Excuses
"I don't like to sweat" lol I like that one.— June 24, 2009 3:27 a.m.
Conspiracy Theories
Some of the theories out there on various subjects are over the top and ridiculous but still - there are some things that make me say "hmm"— June 14, 2009 1:49 p.m.
King of Late Night (and other things)
SD, I didn't know that about people saying he would have liked the idea of his death remaining a mystery.. I missed that part of the interview of his friends but thinking about, he'd seem like the type that would.. almost like a Jim Morrison :) I heard the lastest news on the kinky stuff too Josh.. I guess we can all agree Carradine had a very open mind? lol (that's a good way of putting it).— June 10, 2009 6:15 a.m.
King of Late Night (and other things)
You're probably right that his loved ones don't want to believe what everyone is saying. I just read that the family has contacted the F.B.I., and the police in Thailand said that they would allow the F.B.I. to assist in the investigation but only as observers. I guess they want to know for sure.. kinda like getting a 2nd opinion from a doctor. I would think though that in situations like this having people believe someone's death is suicide when someone was not suicidal would be far worse. Apparently, this type of thing happens a lot. While I don't understand it, I'll just add to the list of things that's not for me!— June 8, 2009 5:44 p.m.
King of Late Night (and other things)
:( It's a sad way to go for sure but the last I read the family still wants an investigation done. I wouldn't be surprised if the police over there cover something like this up - wouldn't look too pretty if a well known actor is killed in their city. It was said that his hands were tied behind his back. If this was what some are saying, how does one tie their own hands? Bizzare. In any event, his life should be celebrated and hopefully people will stop focusing so much on how he died.— June 7, 2009 7:24 p.m.
King of Late Night (and other things)
The random typing and seeing what comes out idea was an interesting read - this works especially for people who have a gift for gab and I get the feeling you are one JB! I saw that Larry King interview you mentioned where he was interviewing friends of David Carradine. If this is the one where Michael Madsen was on it, that's the one I saw. I agree about Larry King. For someone who claims to be so intelligent, he comes off dumb when he doesn't research a guest. There have been many times where he was clueless on things about guests he has had on that is just common pop culture knowledge and it makes me want to scream at the TV. On another note, I was a big Kung Fu fan as a kid and I'm bummed about David Carradine. RIP.— June 6, 2009 7:31 a.m.
The Movie Blog
Hi SDaniels.. yes Christopher Guest movies have that dry sense of humor where it's both hysterically funny while coming across as serious.. he needs to make another. As for best romance movies, I've never seen Notebook yet but besides Bridges of Madison County, I like Sleepless In Seattle (don't cringe people!). I can't help - it's such a cool story. And I liked John Cusack in Serendipity.— May 2, 2009 7:43 a.m.
The Movie Blog
My favorite movie that I never tire of watching is Field of Dreams because it leaves me with good feelings every time. The message that anything is possible and the idealism in the movie is touching. I'm not a huge sports fan but one sport I do enjoy is baseball and that movie showed me why. The history behind the game can bring a person back to simpler, more innocent times. And who doesn't love sitting outside on a summer's day hearing the sound of a bat hitting a ball (with your $7.00 soda and $4.00 hotdog). Another favorite is Bridges of Madison County. Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood were perfect in this. Who would have thought.. Clint Eastwood in that? But it worked so well! I love the scene where she spots him in the rain as she was in the car. The look on both their faces gives me goosebumps. Every woman wants a guy to look at her like that. As for underrated, I'd say Rambling Rose - I really liked this when it came out. It did get good reviews and Laura Dern and her mother Diane Ladd both were praised for their performances but I never hear people talk about it much so I guess it would qualify as underrated. Laura Dern was so good in this. Her character was such a sweet person who had some issues and she confused sex with love. She flirted with men and used her sexual appeal to attract them but she was like a little girl looking for love. I just thought the acting was so great in this. My favorite types of movies are feel good dramas, romantic movies and comedies (Christopher Guest movies like Best In Show or A Mighty Wind I loved. The parodies are so funny and Eugene Levy is always great in those). I'm not a fan of action movies but a good thriller is good. Although as far as overrated, people don't understand me with this one, I didn't like Sixth Sense. I didn't like Bruce Willis in it and he kept wispering through the whole movie.. I wanted to yell at the screen. But everyone loved it so I'm alone with that one. And yes! Thank you JB for saying what I always thought. Scarface is SO overrated!! Is it required for every rapper to think this is the best movie ever made? And it's not just the rappers. For instance, white guys from Brooklyn who listen to Biggie Smalls can quote every line.. haha.. pulllleeze. Enough with the Scarface. Al Pacino was so much better in Scent of A Woman if ya ask me. I thought he was awesome in that.— May 1, 2009 8:41 p.m.
Police Officer Shootings
There are some power hungry officers out there but the same can be said with any profession really. I'm sure there are plenty that truly want to "protect and serve" or at least they did when they first became police officers. I can't imagine the things they have to face and see and put up with (although I can get an idea just from watching the real-life Cops on TV). These things would wear a person down and they'd become pretty jaded. I don't enjoy authority figures with power but you have to do what you have to do! If a cop pulls you over for speeding, be polite and respectful. There are things in life that suck and you just have to obey and respect police officers. The sad stories are when they abuse their power and when innocent people are targeted because of something like race. But if everyone remembers them as our "protectors" instead of the authority out to take our fun away, then overall attitude towards police officers would change for the better.— April 29, 2009 9:46 p.m.
