Philly Child's Death Also Blamed on Brownouts
Guys, here's a perspective from a guy on the 'tailboard. 1. Pension reform needs to happen now. No bull from this fireman, it's gotta happen. We've been taking pay cuts and have seen 50/50 come into play and we're all still in the pot. Jerry and Co need to re-prioritize the C St agenda. 2. The Paramedic staffing issue was set in stone long before I was hired. I do know that my engine co gets on scene about 40% of the time faster than the ambulance, but we also have Sharp Memorial Hosp in our district, so we get ambulances faster than most. A possible answer is that Paramedics cost more and Rural/Metro does not want to pay/hire them? Dunno, it's waaay above my paygrade. 3. OT has been about 90% eliminated for Capt and below, but not so for Batt Chiefs. Don't know what the cost savings is there, but it should be substantial. 4. As far as increased claims if we short staff, it's to be seen, but I know as a Paramedic I will be working harder with less hands on scene. It really helps out on most calls. We all know that the C Street Crew is going to payoff the Corky's and land munchers so Jerry can complete his "Edifice Complex" prior to being termed out. It truly saddens me when people die, but hate the tactic of using a dead little kid. That's true crap on a plate. My 2c— August 13, 2010 5 p.m.
Grand Jury Says City Should Consider Bankruptcy
Hey Don, whadda ya think of filing lawsuits against the architects of the MP1/MP2 nightmare? I mean Sue, Jack, Dick and Mike should be forking over their retirements as payback for, what I would consider criminal, decisions. It is even more criminal that all those who drew up and pushed the plan are walking free and making 6 digits on top of what they grabbed from the city.— June 10, 2010 10:16 a.m.
Frye Thwarts Preposterous Proposed Ballot Language
I remember the "Too Fat Polka" being played on KDKA Radio when I was a kid in Pittsburgh. Ahh the old days.— April 2, 2010 7:30 p.m.
Work for a Government and Rake in Bucks
Don, I don't know what you mean by other jobs, but in our station we have an ancillary specialty that we work. In my station we conduct the Annual Pump Testing. What that entails is putting the pump through a test to ensure that it is working properly and can pump the required amount of water as set forth by the NFPA. This is completed on all Engines, Brush apparatus and specialty rigs (airport crash rigs and water tenders). I do have two jobs outside the fire dept. One is Marine Corps Reservist and EMT instructor. I know this is going to bring some heat from the usuals I read about here, but oh well.— March 3, 2010 2:12 p.m.
Taxpayer-Financed Stadiums Bring "Municipal Woes," says NY Times
Dunno what Seaside is like, but been to Toms River quite a few times. Nothing to write home about.— December 28, 2009 7:17 p.m.

Taxpayer-Financed Stadiums Bring "Municipal Woes," says NY Times
Yeah a slick high speed, low drag presesnation accompanied with the winning streak of the Chargers to add fuel to the smoke machine. Gee, don't it sound like the Padres record being played over again? This whole thing reminds me of a day gone by when the developers came to our small town in Southern NJ and began to put 300+ homes on every piece of open space. No planning for water, sewer, roads, just making homes and money. Took about 10 years of unabated insanity before the town took the Committee positions back. Sure don't see that happening here.— December 28, 2009 2:41 p.m.
Taxpayer-Financed Stadiums Bring "Municipal Woes," says NY Times
Don, can you forward this to every person in San Diego County in the big print, so they can get the clue that the pro sports in this town is a major part of the fiscal nightmare we all have to eat annually? Anon, let me know when you print the 2010 Judas winners, or how can I get a ballot?— December 25, 2009 6:16 p.m.
Supreme Court Justice Asks: Who Passed Bribe?
Don, I really think they should take down the pension board for knowingly duping us the membership for something they knew would happen long after they were gone. The Golding/Murphy Faction with all attachments should dance the carpet for pushing the agenda. Once again knowingly carrying out a devious act. I am no lawyer, nor care to be, but this is pretty clear cut and dry that the mass beatings should begin across the board. For the record I am all in favor of pension reform.— November 7, 2009 5:38 p.m.
PUC Restrains SDGE from Implementing Backcountry Power Shutoff until Sept. 10
I guess SDG&E is going to have to come up with a better plan than to cut off the power and cover their southside? If putting the lines underground is good for the neighborhoods of San Diego, then it should be good for the County neighborhoods.— August 20, 2009 7:03 p.m.
