What would you suggest is better? A footnote on every article stating his full time job?
I don't think it makes much of a difference, anyway. Stone, Green Flash, Ballast Point - they have all gotten big enough that there is little Brandon could say either way that would make a difference. I don't think he's got a beef with any of the smaller places, so I generally take reports at face value.
I *do* think he's been a bit gun shy since Wet-n-Reckless Gate, though, because I've not seen a lot of "this beer wasn't good at all" reports. I think that is only part of the problem, though. In my opinion, it isn't that there is a lot of bad beer (drain pour stuff), but that there is a lot of mediocre beer. — August 13, 2013 11:59 a.m.
Are smaller brewpubs over and out?
Rock Bottom Gaslamp was a relic of a bygone era. A tip of the hat to their brewer and them carrying the craft beer torch between the eras, but the "craft beer by day, night club by night" model always was weird, and The Yard House pretty much took over as the corporate place. The La Jolla Brewhouse is set to reopen as the La Jolla Brewing Company relatively shortly, right? I'm not sure there is room for both them and the Public House in that area, but we'll see.— August 21, 2013 12:27 p.m.

Good Lord - couldn't you have made a mini version of that burger as well? At any rate, I'll head out there - these guys go nuts with the tap list when they have special events and takeovers. Kid in a candy store...— July 24, 2013 10:40 a.m.
Local Habit & Vagabond selling, Brabant coming
I don't have a good feeling about the Local Habit selling. I've gone there quite a few times, because they seem to put things up you seldom see around, and I like their Po boys and pizza. It never seemed that busy, though.— July 23, 2013 1:36 p.m.

Bad service in San Diego
San Francisco has an equally vibrant food culture? No. It is much, much more vibrant.— June 17, 2013 12:31 p.m.
AleSmith bottling beers new and old
I think you may have misinterpreted the Alesmith news a bit, Brandon. They did not say that the Vietnamese Coffee Speedway Stout would be distributed in bottles, but through a special release (that uses the Brown Paper ticket system). They've already done a release of the Kopi Luwak Speedway and a barrel aged Kopi Luwak Speedway via that mechanism. I suspect the bottles will sell out in less than 10 minutes.— June 17, 2013 10:34 a.m.

Just last Tuesday, I tried a few of these at the CBC tasting room. Tasting room guy was talking to people as if they were going forward with their plan, so all hell must have broken loose after that. I'm curious what "a series of internal happenings" would be, but this won't be the first time you've tantalized your readers with a snippet of gossip without any further details, and I doubt it will be the last time. :)— April 24, 2013 3:27 p.m.
Don't judge a restaurant by its name
I hope you got to your movie in time. The last time we went there, we had what should have been an hour lunch turned into an over 2-hour marathon.— April 16, 2013 12:59 p.m.
