The Innocence Project wants to help wrongly accused
@jnojr: Indeed. However, there is no excuse for the abuse of law that puts innocent people in prison, nor executing them. Ambrose Bierce said "The law is where you go in as a pig and come out as a sausage." Just pray that it never happens to you, my friend. And no matter how law-abiding you are, it COULD happen to you, or your wife/husband, daughter/son, mother/father, etc. Having worked in the court system for 32 years, I have seen things that would make you weep. Pray you're never invited as a defendant - unless you have actually done the deed.— August 19, 2015 4:35 p.m.
Monet in Rancho Santa Fe
Am I missing something? The article is entitled "Jenny Craig's Phat Crib," yet there is no mention anywhere in the article (that I can see) of Jenny Craig living HERE. What gives? She just happens to live in the community? Misleading title.— March 20, 2013 3:44 p.m.
To breastfeed at Felix’s Restaurant in Lincoln Park was all she wanted
The article doesn't state: Was Jamie discreet in her nursing? If not, then she's not appropriate in her response. If she was, then the restaurant was in error.— January 23, 2013 3:47 p.m.
Will Work for Food
Perhaps I am wrong, but I think some of the homeless that panhandle feel that is more dignified than being on the public dole - sort of the lost pride of days gone by of avoiding the dole at all costs. In any event, if you have any real life experiences, how can you pass some of these folks by? I think of dear Andrew, who's usually found at El Cajon Boulevard and Fairmount, as you head south. He has Mobius Syndrome: He has Coke-bottle thick glasses and virtually no fingers on his hands - just a "thumb" and "little" finger that are really stubs. He is out there faithfully. Pull over and have a chat with Andrew. He's a nice guy. I don't mind helping him out - and I don't care where the money goes. Sometimes these people have to jump through hoops for the dole, and I'm not going to judge them because they may choose not to do that. So every once in a while I give Andrew a dollar or two or five. It's not much, but there for the Grace of God go I, and I may yet end up that way. These folks are flesh and blood and human and they had parents. Maybe some of them didn't have loving, caring parents and maybe some of them did. They are still PEOPLE. And Andrew is "my" people.— October 28, 2012 3:06 p.m.
Racism Goes Both Ways
I just came across your article after AGAIN experiencing racism toward me (white) by Mexicans. What is going on? I live in an ethnically diverse neighborhood, which I love, but have begun to sense a deep and virulent hatred of Whites by Hispanics - not Blacks and not Asians. It is the same vehement dislike you experienced. Where is THAT coming from? So it isn't just me! What is going on in San Diego? It is to the point that I am concerned that within a few years it will become physically dangerous. Perhaps those living in all-White communities are sheltered from this hatred, but it IS there and it IS spreading, and I do believe it will be coming to a neighborhood near YOU. This evening, I went to a local Denny's for a salad and was treated to stares of hatred and smirks on the faces of people I don't even know. Wake up, White folks, there is a strong undercurrent that is gaining strength here. It is to the point I am considering moving back to L.A. Isn't it interesting that I found LESS racism in L.A.? Strange!— September 14, 2012 10:31 p.m.
