Skyfall
I enjoyed Skyfall a lot more than the reviewer. There was more character development in two major characters, 007 and M. One of the better Bond flicks.— November 11, 2012 8:53 p.m.
Moonrise Kingdom
I categorically disagree with the review submitted by Ursula. In support of my opinion that this is a virtually perfect little movie is the fact that it has remained in theatres for several months and made a bunch of money. I have paid full price to see it twice and have received words of thanks from more than a dozen friends that saw it on my recommendation and were delighted. It is a charming period piece fantasy that compares favorably to 'Cinema Paradiso', one of my other all-time favorite movies. While visiting Tucson recently, I began to tell a friend that rarely goes to movie theatres about this film. During my prologue he interrupted me by saying, "Do you mean 'Moonrise Kingdom'? I have taken my girlfriend to see it three times in the past two weeks." This film may not be for everyone, but it truly deserves its 4 star rating.— October 7, 2012 7:44 a.m.
David Elliott's Final Column
I like what you have accomplished. I will miss your reviews. I have sensed a balanced and down-to-earth perspective. I wish happiness and good fortune to you and the many other talented people in journalism and criticism that have suffered as the digital information age evolves, good friends included. Finally, I don't usually say negative things in print, but I feel compelled to take this opportunity to say that I was happy when you "replaced" Duncan S. He was predictably pompous and was rarely of use to me as as a reviewer. My only positive words for him are that his movie reviews were better than his music reviews.— June 15, 2012 11:57 a.m.
