San Diego fish eat our sunblock, deodorant, and Valium
One other thing this article made me remember was reading about how during the holiday season, the ocean around the Seattle area (and probably most US urban areas of course) is flavored with higher than usual amounts of Vanilla and cinnamon! A great example of how these innocuous baking ingredients used in relatively small amounts can even show up in our sewage, let alone the chemicals and pesticides and detergents. I also wonder if the fish feel the constant effects of the caffeine that this article discusses! http://www.seattlepi.com/local/297137_vanilla25.h…— November 6, 2009 1:46 p.m.
San Diego fish eat our sunblock, deodorant, and Valium
Amazing article. I think way too often people don't think about what lives "downstream" and how much everything on this planet is interconnected. If this was not on the cover of the Reader it should have been, thanks so much for calling attention to the plight of our sea creatures. I agree that their existence here in San Diego is one of the greatest things about our city.— November 6, 2009 1:29 p.m.
Crest Burgers
I'm dying to know...how did they make the burger part??— September 3, 2009 8:24 a.m.
Mind the Cap
"We however, are too stupid as human beings to adapt. " Well said Pistol, I agree with this one statement at least!— September 3, 2009 7:04 a.m.

Pistol Pete WTF is your problem that you're ANTI - the natural world which is what gives you life? Instead of valuing the best part of Southern CA, the beaches (why do you live here!?)...to the contrary you actually want to try to CONTRIBUTE to the growing plastic islands in the Pacific. Just because you do not approve of legislation that gets passed does that somehow give you a license to attack places of sheer natural beauty that would be the only entities harmed in your evil scheme. Do something more productive than hording bottle lids to dump...maybe trying to stop legislation you don't like or making a difference in some way. Btw in theory I am against legislation like that (why can't people simply pick up after themselves without the gov't intervening!) Unfortunately there are too many people that can't do these simple things (mainly bc they don't think about a picture bigger than themsleves!) and need big brother to give them a hand in being responsible.— September 2, 2009 9:51 a.m.
Extreme Low August Tides

My Thoughts on Michael Douglas and Michael Vick
#19 "The talent between these two groups are non-comparable since one side has none" I couldn't agree more, I wasn't the one that brought up the stripper / pro-football player comparison, it was brought up in post #8. To me it was like comparing apples and oranges, one big "HUH?!". As Josh says, not that a stripper might have athleticism and talent to her own right ;) but most strippers live a life of relative anonymity regardless of their skills. If it was found that a stripper had committed a murder would it make national news? Maybe, but for how long? Would it provoke emotion- filled strings such as this one? I can't even believe I'm typing this as it feels so obvious to me that a Ms. Jane Doe stripper does not influence the American psyche as a well known NFL player does. I happened to read an article on CNN yesterday right after I posted my comment above that stated "When pro quarterback Michael Vick pleaded guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting operation in 2007, there was a spike in reports of dogfighting in the United States" Which goes to show that his case piqued investigation and awareness of dogfighting. At least Vick's cloud had some sort of silver lining!— August 18, 2009 8:52 a.m.
My Thoughts on Michael Douglas and Michael Vick
"We don't hold up strippers as role models, so why do you expect ball players to be any better?" Probably because NFL players are making money hand over fist as well as enjoying the spotlight while most strippers struggle to get by!!— August 17, 2009 10:45 a.m.
