The award-winning San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus (SDGMC) is back with its celebrated annual holiday show on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. This year’s show, The Nutcracker (Men in Tights!), takes place at the festive Balboa Theatre in downtown San Diego.
“Our show promises the whimsical magic of traditional holiday songs coupled with the fun and frolic people have come to love and expect from our chorus,” said SDGMC Artistic Director Gary Holt. “No one does the holidays like 130 gay men! There’s singing and dancing, naughty and nice, and, yes, actual men in tights!”
Among the show’s many holiday favorites are enchanting and unique arrangements of “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “Silver Bells,” “Gloria Fanfare,” ”What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve” and “Jingle Bells.” The highlight of the evening will be a jubilant rendition of The Nutcracker Suite with all its fantasy characters brought to life from sugar plum fairies to toy soldiers to dancing mice.
Tickets are available by calling (877) 296-SONG or at www.sdgmc.org. Tickets start at $27 and range to $70 for VIP seating. A $3 discount is available for seniors, students, active-duty military and groups of 10 or more. The Balboa Theatre is located at 868 Fourth Avenue adjacent to the Horton Plaza shopping center in San Diego.
The SAN DIEGO GAY MENS CHORUS, one of the ten largest GALA choruses in the United States, features over 130 talented and dedicated singers, devoted to the chorus mission statement, “To create a positive musical experience through exciting performances which engage our audiences, build community support and provide a dynamic force for social change.”
