David Copley's "Foxhole" mansion on sale for $7.95 million
According to an earlier article in the Reader, Foxhole is located at 1274 Virginia Way, La Jolla, CA. I located Foxhole on Google Maps Street View. There's also an alley behind Foxhole which is also accessible through Street View. It appears that Copley took as many as four pre-existing houses on separate lots and physically connected them into one large residence. Then, Copley built large structures at the rear of the each property and connected them to the main "residence" with a pool in the middle. I don't think anyone who could afford Foxhole would want to live in a house like that. I think Foxhole will sell for the value of the land only. I don't think anyone will pay $7 million for Foxhole, because it is not located on the ocean and lacks an ocean view. A developer will buy Foxhole, raze the residence, and erect condos. With an alley running behind Foxhole for parking access, it would be ideal for condos or apartments.— April 12, 2013 11:51 a.m.
Papa Doug's son says he is for same-sex marriage
"I knew you meant Walter Mencken. I was trying to make a joke. I guess it didn't go over. Best, Don Bauder" This blog is no laughing matter.— March 22, 2013 10:46 p.m.
Payment for Illumina's patent suit loss one of nation's largest
If Twister lost money in non-traded REITs peddled by LPL, his only option for recovery appears to be filing an arbitration claim with FINRA. He will probably need a lawyer. Under the terms of his customer agreement he almost certainly agreed not to sue LPL. Any claims must be settled through arbitration. That's why LPL will likely never face a class action lawsuit over non-traded REITs.— March 16, 2013 10:03 p.m.
Caterer sentenced for tax evasion
White collar criminals always get the light touch. A crime of this magnitude warrants at least 5 years in prison. Those of us who line up like sheep each year to pay our taxes should be outraged at this ridiculous sentence. Any judge who would hand out a light sentence for a serious crime like this should be off the bench. This is a joke, not a sentence. Judge Sammartino is a Bush (league) appointee. http://judgepedia.org/index.php/Janis_Sammartino— March 15, 2013 4:54 p.m.
Former law colleagues of judge in moguls' case against Filner gave big money to DeMaio
It appears that the power elite put this hack into judge's robes, and then steered the case to him so he could throw it out. He'll probably be rewarded later with a Federal judgeship or court of appeals appointment, so he can double dip with a state pension and a Federal salary.— March 15, 2013 11:06 a.m.
Archbishop of Buenos Aires named Pope
I was hoping Father Joe would get the nod.— March 13, 2013 11:14 p.m.
Three San Diego lawyers disbarred
There's value in publicizing disbarments. The public should be aware that many lawyers are thieves.— March 11, 2013 9:14 p.m.
The unmaking and making of Roger Hedgecock
It appears that Hedgecock owns apartments and industrial buildings all over San Diego, and as many as 60 apartment buildings in Las Vegas. By all rights Hedgecock should have been ruined when he resigned as mayor under a cloud. Instead, he arose like the Phoenix from the ash heap of a ruined political career to attain great wealth as a real estate investor.— March 9, 2013 3:54 p.m.
Chargers hawking combined convention center/roofed stadium
It might be cheaper to have Nassco construct a floating football stadium on a large barge. When not in use the floating stadium could be stored in Ensenada and transported as needed to San Diego Harbor by ocean going tugs.— March 8, 2013 10:45 p.m.
RV parking ban planned for streets west of I-5
There are several thousand homeless people in San Diego who live in motorhomes. The law is designed to force them out of the beach areas where they congregate.— March 8, 2013 7:43 p.m.
